So-called “alt-right” leader Richard Spencer’s planned visit to the University of Cincinnati has been postponed indefinitely.
University President Neville Pinto sent a mass email to the student body Monday, noting Spencer had failed to sign the rental agreement before http://www.officialcardinalsstore.com/shop-by-players-drew-stanton-jersey-c-1_20.html the agreed upon deadline.
The agreement would have granted a March 14, 10:30 a.m. timeslot for Spencer to speak at Zimmer Auditorium.
The rental agreement included a $11,333 security fee intended to cover preparations and hire security for the event.
“We Blake Martinez Jersey adhere to the http://www.billsjerseysale.com/shop-by-players-marcus-easley-jersey-c-1_33.html foundational rights embedded in the First Amendment,” UC spokesperson Greg Vehr wrote in response to Spencer’s Jan. 9 legal complaint. “However, Spencer was not invited or sponsored by any member of the university community, and Authentic Michael Bennett Jersey like other non-sponsored speakers, he must pay a fee to rent university space. This includes a security fee. The fee assessed is a mere fraction of the costs we anticipate incurring as a result of this event.”
Spencer’s team filed a federal lawsuit against UC, deeming the fee discriminatory and a violation of free speech rights.
“The event won’t happen in March because my client is unable to afford — and unwilling to pay — the cost-prohibitive http://www.ungure.com/nic-dowd-jersey-c-1_13.html speech tax that the University of Cincinnati is charging to maintain security,” Spencer’s lawyer Kyle Bristow wrote in an email to TNR. “The security fee is based in part upon the content of my client’s speech and the communities’ hostile reaction thereto.”
Pinto said he cannot yet predict the outcome of the litigation, according to his letter. The email also announced the appointment of Vice President of Equity and Inclusion Bleuzette Marshall to the group tasked with preparing UC for Spencer’s visit.
The group will partner with the Protest Safety Team for logistics planning.
“While countless voices have roundly condemned this speaker’s hate, prejudice and racism, that is not enough,” Pinto wrote. “It’s imperative that we take this as an opportunity to more fully live into action the values of inclusion, respect, responsibility and dignity – and to do so over the long term.”
Spencer’s visit is not permanently canceled Authentic Marquess Wilson Jersey but is expected to be pushed to a later date.
Despite this setback, Spencer still plans to speak at Kent State University this spring. However, KSU has said they do http://www.cheapcelticssale.com/bill-russell-jersey-c-1_13.html not have a venue for Spencer to speak at, The Associated Press reported.
Bristow told AP they plan to Jakub Voracek Youth Jersey sue KSU if Spencer is not allowed to speak.
